I have a MacBook Pro which has recently started making a grinding noise from the rear left/right edges when the lid is opened or closed. It seems like the hinge might have warped or something. I use the machine in the house so it’s never dropped or even moved from the desk.
Can you give me any idea how much this is likely to cost to fix? I’m very aware that something must be broken if it’s making a grinding noise like that..

Lucas – in PaisleyI have a 24 inch Core 2 Duo Imac, and was recently trying to record audio and the computer froze and proceeded to shut down. Before it shut down the screen went dark for a few minutes and now when i try to start it up, The light on the front just flashes. I am claiming on my insurance and would like to have a quote to work out whether it will be repaired or replaced.

Danny – MotherwellI have a Macbook pro 15inch purchased in early 2008 (2.2 Ghz Intel Core 2 duo). The screen flickers pink and is almost unsuable, unless connected to an external monitor.

I am actually working in Oslo, Norway (The phone number is a skype number) but in the UK on thursday for a meeting in Brighton. Is this something you can help out with. It is either a faulty connection or the lcd may need replacing.

have a Macbook that I have had since March 2008. A few months ago I put it on to charge, and it just had a cross on the battery symbol and it said ‘Battery not charging.’ My dad got me new battery off the internet, but when I put it on to charge the light on the charger flashes from green to red so takes forever to charge, and I cannot use the macbook while its charging because it just cuts off whenever the light on the charger turns red.

Also now when it is charged the battery lasts no time at all, and it cuts out often.
To top it off, the battery lock on the back is also busted. Can you give me a clue of how much this will all cost to repair?

My iMac is getting a little creaky now – it’s an Intel Core 2 Duo – and has begun to hang in a strange way which wasn’t affected by a RAM upgrade. I’ve had it looked at and it seems I need a new hard drive. What sort of price would I be looking at for installation of a new hard drive? I don’t need a whole lot of space. It currently has 150GB which has been fairly sufficient with the aid of external hard drives.
